×Crataemespilus

× Crataemespilus canescens makes a multi-stemmed shrub, and seems to suit warm-summer climates (Cincinnati Zoo and Botanical Garden, August 2022). Image John Grimshaw.

This name covers all sexual hybrids between Mespilus and Crataegus. Those who include Mespilus within Crataegus name them simply as Crataegus hybrids; we list these synonyms. Graft hybrids between the two are chimaeras which contain tissues from each parent; they are named +Crataegomespilus (q.v.) although the two are sometimes confused in listings.
