Closely allied to V. salicifolia. The leaves are more evenly tapered towards the apex than in that species and, as seen on cultivated plants, darker green. Seed-capsules spreading or forward-pointing. Native of a small area of North Island, where it grows to about 6 ft high; introduced by Graham Hutchins in 1981. It is probably too tender for general cultivation.
