Editorial Note

Bean treated several species under the former segregate genus Holboellia, united with Stauntonia by Christenhusz (2012).

Stauntonia sensu Christenhusz (2012) includes twenty-nine species in E. and S.E. Asia; the species formerly assigned to Holboellia have with free (not united) stamens, fleshy sepals, and minute petals (absent in Stauntonia). The name commemorates Sir George Staunton, who accompanied Lord Macartney on his famous embassy to China in 1792.
