A hybrid bred by Collingwood Ingram in 1950 and named for his home in Kent. It forms a large shrub to at least 3 × 3 m, with thornless stems and 3–5-lobed leaves (Edwards & Marshall 2019). The large flowers (5 cm across) are very attractive for a short period in spring (April/May in England), but then one has a large dull shrub for the rest of the year.
