Low shrub; young shoots densely covered with adpressed bristles. Leaves of one kind, deciduous, 0.7–1.5 × 0.4–0.6 cm, ovate to ovate-oblong, apex obtuse, apiculate; upper surface glabrescent; petioles covered with bristles. Pedicels densely pilose. Flowers 3–4 per inflorescence; calyx small; corolla red, funnel-shaped, c.15 mm; stamens 7–10; ovary pubescent, style glabrous. Flowering May. Royal Horticultural Society (1997)
