Perkinsiodendron has recently been erected to accommodate a single Chinese species, P. macgregorii (formerly Halesia macgregorii). The new genus is named for Janet Russell Perkins (1853–1933) “the foremost early 20th Century authority on the Styracaceae” (Fritsch et al. 2016).
