'Maackia' from the website Trees and Shrubs Online (treesandshrubsonline.
A genus of six deciduous trees natives of E. Asia and named after Richard Maack, a Russian naturalist who died in 1886. They are nearly akin to Cladrastis and have by some authorities been put in that genus. But they are really very distinct in that the wood is not brittle as in Cladrastis; the leaf-buds are solitary and not hidden by the base of the leaf-stalk; the leaflets are opposite and the flowers are densely packed in more or less erect racemes. They are very hardy and grow well in good open soil in full sunshine, but they have no very outstanding merits. They flower in July and August and occasionally bear seeds.
