A genus of about a dozen species of evergreen small trees or shrubs with alternate or opposite leaves, the cultivated species of which come from South America and Australia. It is allied to Embothrium and has flowers of a similar structure. The generic name is from the Greek and refers to the winged edge of the seeds (lōma = fringe).

A note on the cultivated species, by A. D. Schilling, will be found in The Plantsman, Vol. 6 (3), pp. 138–45.
