Editorial Note

Bean did not discuss this genus (though he incorrectly gave Laurelia philippiana as a synonym for Laurelia serrata Bertero). We supply only brief text below, pending a full, revised account to be provided when funds are available. If you would like to sponsor the work please write to editor@treesandshrubsonline.org

This monotypic genus consists of Laureliopsis philippiana, split from Laurelia on the basis of staminode position (on the inner, not outer, side of the receptacle), tepal situation, receptacle structure, and leaf-hair form (centrifixed and basifixed, against basifixed only) (Martínez-Laborde 1988).

The single species is reasonably well known in cultivation, although still uncommon and mostly confined to warmer and maritime gardens in the British Isles. It prefers a warm, moist site sheltered from cold wind.
