Herbaceous species previously treated in the genera Cardiandra Siebold & Zucc. and Deinanthe Maxim. are now included in a broad-scope Hydrangea, as Hydrangea Section Cardiandra and Hydrangea Section Deinanthe respectively (see genus article and references therein). Herbaceous species are beyond the scope of Trees and Shrubs Online and would not normally be discussed beyond a few introductory comments in the genus article, but as they make up only a minor portion of Hydrangea we list these species names below for completeness.
