Editorial Note
Bean (1981) discussed this taxon very briefly under Sorbus mougeotii, as S. mougeotii subsp. austriaca. It is now considered a distinct species, but for the time being readers seeking Bean’s comments on Hedlundia austriaca are referred to his text under H. mougeotii, to which it is compared. We are currently reorganising Sorbus sensu lato articles to enable a new revision of Sorbus sensu stricto to commence in 2023, and to bring the nomenclature of this complex group of plants up to date in line with modern treatments.
