Editorial Note

A highly recognisable but internally rather ill-defined family, Polygonaceae has benefited greatly from recent molecular research, which has brought infrafamilial relationships and phylogenetic structure into much sharper focus. One species treated by Bean under the genus Polygonum has been transferred to Fallopia. A full, revised treatment will be provided when funding is available. If you would like to sponsor the account of this genus please write to editor@treesandshrubsonline.org

The name commemorates Gabriel Fallopius (Gabriello Fallopio), the Italian anatomist (d. 1562).
