A monospecific genus of Himalayan trees with coriaceous, pinnately veined leaves. Flowers bisexual, in axillary clusters, each flower surrounded by persistent imbricated bracts. Fertile stamens twelve. Fruit a berry, inserted on the thick, flattened calyx-tube.
