May Appeal 2026

Please help keep TSO growing!

IDS Trees and Shrubs Online has become a fundamental source of reliable information about cultivated woody plants, freely available to everyone, everywhere. We hope you find it useful.

For the first time we are asking our users if you could support us.

If everyone who uses TSO during May 2026 gives just £10, we would cover our costs for a whole year, enabling us to accelerate our work.

Editorial Note

A segregate genus of seven Chilean and Argentinian species formerly included in Abutilon, under which name they were treated by Bean. Corynabutilon was erected by Kearney (1949) on the basis of the characteristic flattened, clavate-thickened style branches, and placed in Malveae subtr. Corynabutilinae.

For a brief note on the taxonomy of the (notoriously problematic) genus Abutilon s.l., see the entry for that genus.

We have published this stub genus article as part of a wider reorganisation of Malvaceae articles. This is part of a programme of work beginning in early 2025 to bring the nomenclature of articles in line with modern treatments. Historic Bean text will appear under its correct modern name, with appropriate synonymy, until we have funding to update the articles entirely. A full account of this genus will be provided when funds are available. If you would like to sponsor this work please write to editor@treesandshrubsonline.org
