This species resembles C. phlebantha in having pinnate leaves with the leaflets white tomentose beneath, but is easily distinguished by the shape and size of the leaflets and by the flowers being smaller and borne in terminal inflorescences. The leaflets are lanceolate to elliptic-ovate, acute, entire, about 1⁄2 to 12⁄5 in. long, 1⁄6 to 2⁄5 in. (sometimes up to 2⁄3 in.) wide. The flowers are up to 4⁄5 in. wide.
A native of China, introduced by Wilson from W. Szechwan. It is no longer in cultivation at Kew.
