Editorial Note

A number of species formerly included in Cissus have been transferred to other genera, for instance the common houseplant Cissus antarctica (now placed in Apocissus). The single species treated by Bean in this genus, Cissus striata, has been referred to Clematicissus, but a few species remaining in Cissus are cultivated in our study area, a full account to be provided when funds are available. If you would like to sponsor the entry for this genus please write to editor@treesandshrubsonline.org

A genus of about 250 deciduous and evergreen species almost wholly confined to tropical and subtropical regions. The majority are climbers, but some are inhabitants of desert regions, with succulent roots and herbaceous stems, or with stout, fleshy trunks.
