A genus of about seventy-five species, most of them herbs and sub-shrubs. The one species described is of interest as the only shrubby member of the Umbelliferae that can be cultivated in the open air in Britain. Four herbaceous members of the same genus are natives of chalky districts in Britain and are known in country places as ‘buplevers’.
