A genus of a single Japanese deciduous shrub, allied to Tripetaleia and, until recently, included in it. Stapf (Kew Bulletin, 1934, p. 192) placed it in a genus of its own, distinguished from Tripetaleia by its simple, relatively few-flowered racemose inflorescence, its conspicuous leafy bracts, five free oblong sepals and sessile capsule (not borne on a distinct stalk as in the other genus).

From the Supplement (Vol.V)

This genus is now included in, or rather restored to, the genus Elliottia, in which its name is: E. bracteata (Maxim.) Benth. & Hook. f.
