    Bean mentioned this species under the genus entry for Arundinaria, which discussed the hardy bamboos in general.

    True species of Bambusa are not hardy in the British Isles, with the exception of B. multiplex, which might be grown in the open in sheltered positions in the south-west. There are several attractive cultivars.
