A genus of two or three species in temperate S. America and New Zealand, belonging to the same family as Philesia and Lapageria, both of which it resembles in its net-veined leaves and fleshy fruits. It is, however, easily distinguished from both by the shape of its flowers. The family belongs to the monocotyledons and is closely allied to the Liliaceae, in which it is included by some botanists.
